As a senior research and news specialist, Ashley serves as the lead editor for research story submissions to Penn State News. She liaises with communicators from across the University to identify the most impactful angles and strategic relevance of stories to promote storytelling that engages target audiences and advances Penn State’s reputation for research excellence. She also writes research news and feature stories and collaborates with the proactive media team to help identify expert positioning opportunities for faculty members.
Prior to joining Strategic Communications, Ashley was the editorial director for Penn State’s College of Engineering. In that role, she led editorial strategy development and implementation, served as the primary news editor, and wrote research news and feature stories.
Ashley came to Penn State from the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, where she was the communications and marketing manager. Prior to that, she served as the U.S. communications officer for the Large Hadron Collider and associated experiments at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. She earned a master of arts degree at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor of arts in communications and media studies and environmental studies at Fordham University.
