Associate Vice President, Strategic Communications
Associate Vice President for Strategic Communications Powell leads Penn State’s Marketing, Campus and Community Events, and Licensing Programs teams. She is a Penn State alumna, bringing more than twenty-five years of experience to promote her alma mater’s excellence in academics, research, service, and global impact.
Tracy guides efforts to grow awareness and support for the Penn State brand, whether through strategy, creative, content, merchandise, or community experiences. With an eye toward measurement, she is adept at developing strategic roadmaps for success. Tracy is passionate about fostering new ideas and creativity as well as forging partnerships across the University.
Tracy has a robust track record as a leader in building brand presence and awareness in the entertainment industry. She began at Turner Broadcasting where she developed business-to-business and business-to-consumer campaigns to promote CNN, TNT, and Cartoon Network, among other channels. Tracy also served as vice president of distribution marketing for A&E Networks and was integral in developing TV Everywhere strategies for A&E, History, Lifetime, and more.
Throughout her career, Tracy has been instrumental in developing award-winning advocacy campaigns like Stop Breast Cancer for Life and Take a Vet to School—campaigns that contributed to the public good while reinforcing the networks’ brand positioning.
Tracy counts among her career achievements, which include numerous speaking engagements and professional organization affiliations, a TAMI Award for exceptional leadership from the Cable and Telecommunications Association for Marketing, a Lifetime Television Award for Excellence, and a Turner Network Sales Achievement Award.
Tracy is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s week-long cable executive management program and the prestigious Betsy Magness Leadership Institute. She holds a bachelor of science degree in management from Penn State.
