strengths.

At the core of Penn State's academic and research endeavors is the quest to improve human lives. The impact of the University's research efforts stretches across international borders as well as throughout the cities and towns surrounding our campuses. The University bolsters the economy of Pennsylvania, adding millions of dollars of investment and thousands of jobs through projects in the state and beyond. Our faculty expertise and research help individuals and communities every day. Efforts to help the planet cope with fundamental issues like climate change, resource management, and food security hold promise for future generations.

Research Communications staff promote the success of the University's academic and research strengths through multiple communication channels that reach a wide array of audiences.

These channels include national and international media outlets, the biweekly online Research & Discovery Newswire, the Penn State News website, and the Big Black Glasses Tumblr Blog. The department's outreach programs, “Research on the Road” and “Research Unplugged,” connect Penn State faculty and their academic and research achievements to media and alumni both locally and across the country, in venues such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.

Department staff produce print and digital editions of Research Penn State, an award-winning magazine that captures the diversity and drama of research across the University, and the Annual Report on Research Activities both in support of the Office of the Vice President for Research.
